Periodontal Care (Healthy Teeth and Gums)
The key to a healthy smile is to brush, floss, and rinse daily, along with visits to your hygienist every three to six months. Brush with a soft
toothbrush gently with a short back and forth scrubbing motion. Brush in sections at a time reaching each surface of the teeth. Be sure to replace your
toothbrush every three to four months. Floss daily by gently scraping the side of each tooth away from the gum and the backside of your last tooth.
Rinse for about one minute every day with mouthwash to remove the extra tartar above the gum line.

Tooth Colored Fillings (Bonding/Sealants)
Bonding is used for many purposes such as closing small gaps, repairing a chipped or fractured tooth, and covering up discolored teeth.
Bonds, natural-looking material, is attached to your tooth surface. Bonded restoration may last for up to five years before needing a touch-up. Bonds
can chip easily and are prone to stains so be sure to take very good care of them at home and with regular visits to the dentist. Bonding can be
performed in one or more appointments and normally do not need the use of anesthesia.

Implants (Replacing Lost Teeth)
Implants are artificial teeth that are surgically set in the jaw to replace a missing tooth. Implants can replace all, a couple, or only one of your teeth.
An implant takes multiple visits to your dentist and may last three to nine months to complete the implant process.
It is important to replace missing teeth because of the many dental problems it can cause. Not replacing lost teeth can lead to an unbalanced bite,
chewing stress, decay, and disease.

Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is a bleaching process that lightens discoloration of enamel and dentin. Tooth discoloration is a result of aging, coffee, tea, tobacco,
nerve degeneration, and much more. Dr. VanWyck uses Discus Dental Nite White trays to whiten his patients' teeth. It is a fast, safe, and very
effective teeth whitening system. The whitening gel is placed in a clear thin bleaching tray that fits over your teeth and is worn at night. Results are
generally seen after the first application and is continued for ten to fourteen applications. Call or stop by our office to schedule an appointment for
new whiter teeth TODAY! (860) 567-8684

Dentures/Partials
Dentures are false teeth made to replace teeth you have lost. Dentures can be complete or partial. Complete dentures cover your entire upper or
lower jaw. Partials replace one or a few teeth.
Over time, your mouth will change and your dentures may need to be adjusted or replaced. Be sure to let your dentist handle these adjustments

Root Canals
A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and
pulp are removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and
abscesses may form.

Crowns/Bridges
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" that is placed over a tooth - covering the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, and/or to improve its
appearance. The crowns, when cemented into place, fully encase the entire visible portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line. A bridge is
made up of two crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap – these two anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth – and a false tooth/teeth in
between. These false teeth are called pontics and can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials. Dental bridges are
supported by natural teeth or implants.
