Meet Dr. Robert VanWyck
Interest in Dentistry My choice to pursue a career in dentistry arose form a desire to utilize and incorporate the education and skills I acquired through an electrical and biomedical background. Upon completion of dental school, I would then be able to draw upon all these experiences enabling me to then work directly with people to redesign their smiles and restore their dental function. Education I received a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA in 1975. In 1980 I then received a Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Ohio State University. The following year, 1980 to 1981, was spent completing a dental residency at Southbury Training School in Connecticut. In our continually evolving society, I believe that it is necessary to stay up to date on the latest technological advances. Therefore, I continue to further my commitment to education by taking six courses per year through the Connecticut State Dental Association, and also by attending many other seminars which expand my knowledge of these new techniques and methods in todays dentistry. Constant exposure to new and innovative information has driven me to share my educational momentum through educating others. Through my volunteering at the University of Connecticut Dental School Residency Program two days a month since 1985, I have been fulfilling this goal. Other Education Participating in various courses at the Omega and Kripula Institutes has helped to round out and expand my educational experiences. Through these teachings I have come to specialize in Therapeutic Touch 1, 2, 3 and have attained the level of Reiki Master since October 2000.History

History In 1981, I entered into the established Litchfield, Connecticut dental practice of Dr. Warren Attmore. Since Dr. Attmore's retirement in 1985, I have continued to practice out of the same location. Over time every aspect of the practice has continually been updated to keep pace with its ever growing expansion. Associations/Membership I belong to the American Dental Association, Connecticut State Dental Association, Litchfield County Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry. Community My committed involvement with the Litchfield-Morris Rotary Club began when I became a member in 1985. In the year of 2002-2003 I was the Rotary Club president and am currently the Youth Exchange Coordinator. This year (2008-2009) our Rotary chapter is host to one foreign study student from Ecuador, Daniel Montesinos. Hobbies and Interests Since first learning to scuba dive in an Akron, Ohio pool back in 1968, I have been a strong enthusiast of the sport. Two of my favorite pastimes involve an interaction with Dolphins; one by simply observing them swimming by while walking the Florida beaches, the second actually involves swimming amongst them when scuba diving in the Grand Cayman Islands. Other activities such as: kayaking, fly fishing, downhill and cross country skiing help keep me fit and bring me the opportunity to experience the great outdoors, which I love. As for a fun indoor activity, I've been meeting weekly with a group who have been playing Wallyball since 1984. My wife Ellie and I love to take friends and relatives on mini-nature tours around Englewoods waterways. We are able to watch eagles building nests, osprey diving for fish, dolphins playing and finding breakfast and occasionally we even see the exclusive manatees.
